“Open Software Defined Data Center and Infrastructure Freedom: An Open Approach Against Vendor Lock-in”

OpenSDDC was shared with the community at ÖzgürKon 2026. The talk argued that the freedom free software gave to code has to reach the infrastructure that code runs on.

Three claims
  1. 01

Code can be free; if the runtime is not, freedom is incomplete.

Licences end at the code. Lock-in lives in the layer underneath.

  2. 02

    On-prem is not automatically freedom.

You may own the hardware; if hypervisor, storage, management plane and support belong to one vendor, the decision is still not yours.

  3. 03

Not against vendors. Against being unable to change them.

The goal is not to avoid vendors; it is never to be stuck with one.

How the session ran

Forty minutes, five steps.

  1. 01“Software is free, what about infrastructure?” A map of the risks.
  2. 02Why lock-in grows fastest in storage and virtualisation.
  3. 03The OpenSDDC approach: SAN + Kubernetes + SLTV + gIMI + OpenDIMA.
  4. 04Mini demo: how SLTV works, telemetry through gIMI.
  5. 05Roadmap, a call to the community, places to contribute.
